1. Connect your Instagram
Sign in at app.commentfor.com and connect your Instagram professional account (Business or Creator) through Meta's official login. If you're on a personal account, switching to a professional one is free and takes about a minute in the Instagram app — Meta's API requires it. commentfor never sees your password; Meta issues the platform a scoped, revocable connection instead.
2. Create your first automation
Pick the post, reel, or story you want to automate, choose a trigger keyword — "LINK", "GUIDE", "PRICE", anything — and write the DM that should go out, with the link you want delivered. Starter templates cover the common plays if you'd rather not start from a blank box.
3. Add gates if you want them
Two optional gates sit between the comment and the link:
- Follow-gate — the DM asks the commenter to follow you first; the link is delivered once they do.
- Email gate — the DM asks for an email address; when they reply with one, the lead is captured (and forwarded to Kit or Flodesk if connected) and the link goes out.
Gates chain in order: follow → email → link.
4. Followers comment, commentfor delivers
From the moment the automation is live, every matching comment or story reply gets its DM within seconds — plus an optional public reply under the comment. Instagram permits one private reply per comment, within 7 days of it; commentfor enforces both automatically and paces every send safely under the official 750-private-replies-per-hour limit, so comment spikes queue up instead of putting your account at risk.
5. Watch what converts
The dashboard tracks every delivered link — clicks and CTR per campaign — and collects your captured leads with one-click CSV export. Double down on the posts and keywords that actually convert.
